67 Vehicles in South Jakarta Undergo Emission Test

Some 67 vehicles underwent an emissions test on Thursday (8/8), held at the exit of Blok M Bus Terminal, Melawai Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru Sub-district. Unfortunately, 13 vehicles failed the test.

Pollution and Environmental Damage Control Section Head, Tuty Ernawati said that 24 out of 67 vehicles were petrol-fueled, nine four-wheeled vehicles were diesel-powered, and 34 were two-wheeled vehicles.

"54 vehicles were declared to have passed the emission test. There were five four-wheeled vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel, and eight motorcycles were declared to have failed the test," she expressed, Thursday (8/8).

Emission Test Held at Kelapa Island Urban Village

She explained the emission test was held in collaboration with the Operational Development Section of the South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit.

"We do it randomly, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles that pass by. The vehicles we test have never been recorded as having conducted an emissions test," she explained.

It is a mandate of the Governor's Regulation Number 66/2020 on Motor Vehicle Exhaust Emission Testing.

"We continue to improve air quality in Jakarta, one of which is through monitoring motor vehicle exhaust emissions," she explained.

One of the drivers, Dimas (36) uttered that after taking the test, his motorbike was declared to have passed the emissions test.

"I was surprised when I was suddenly asked to do an emissions test. However, I was sure that it would pass because it was frequently serviced, the motorbike was still good and didn't blow up," he stated.
